Popular Invisible Braces Options

There are a few choices available when it comes to invisible braces options. Braces are orthodontic devices that are used to deal with alignment issues. These devices work by applying uniformed pressure on a person's teeth, gradually moving them into the proper alignment over time.

The result is usually correctly aligned teeth.

Over the years, traditional braces have been the most popular devices for orthodontic treatments, and they are also one of the more affordable solutions. However, metal braces are slightly visible when a person has them, and that can lead to some feeling self-conscious about their appearance. That puts patients in a "catch 22" scenario since having poorly aligned teeth can lower a person's confidence, yet having a visible metal device in one's mouth can also do the same.

Fortunately, more subtle ways to straighten teeth that are poorly aligned.

Common invisible braces options

1. Clear Braces

Clear braces are becoming increasingly popular when it comes to orthodontic treatments. These devices work similarly to the way traditional metal braces work: by continually applying pressure on the patient's teeth.

Each patient gets multiple mouth guard-like trays during the beginning of the treatment. Each is worn for around two weeks, and each successive plate pushes the wearer's teeth a little closer to the desired position.

Clear braces can be easily removed when it is time to eat, and this helps to avoid getting them stained or contaminated with food particles. Being able to remove clear braces easily also makes things easy when it is time for the patient to clean their mouth.

Clear braces should be worn for a minimum of 22 hours each day to be effective.

2. Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are another popular option when it comes to straightening teeth. These devices are just like traditional metal braces, but there are a few distinct differences. Instead of metal brackets, clear braces come with ceramic brackets that are the same color as the patient's real teeth. That makes it harder to detect when a person wears clear braces.

Also, clear braces often come with thin wires that connect the brackets instead of the metal wires that are the norm with traditional braces.

The combination of the ceramic brackets and the clear wires used to connect them make it virtually impossible to detect when a person wears them.

3. Lingual Braces

Also known as inside braces, these are a lot like traditional metal braces. However, instead of wearing the device on the external-facing side of the patient's teeth, the brackets and wires are attached to the internal side of the tooth.

That makes it hard to tell when a person has lingual braces. Lingual braces tend to be the most uncomfortable of the popular invisible braces options, but they can be as effective as metal braces.
