Is It Ok To Pull Out My Loose Tooth?

Wondering what to do about your loose tooth? Even though you may be tempted to pull the tooth out yourself, this is not always the best choice. Being in good oral health means having a full set of teeth, which is why a dentist will do everything they can in order to save a patient's tooth before making a decision to extract it from the mouth. If one or several of your permanent teeth happen to be loose or cause you immense pain, then you definitely need to make a dental appointment as soon as possible.
Professional treatment will help to address the health issue and find a long-term solution.
What causes a tooth to become loose?
While our teeth remain firmly in place to help people talk and chew without experiencing any issues, There are a variety of problems that can weaken the teeth. If the fibers and ligaments that help hold our teeth in place sustain damage or experience trauma, it can loosen the tooth or cause worse problems. Damaging a tooth so much that it becomes loose can occur from the simple act of biting into something hard.
Trauma tends to occur when someone falls down, gets hit in the face with a rogue ball or takes an elbow to the jaw when playing sports. A tooth infection can also cause the tooth to loosen. Gum disease that does not receive treatment can also cause teeth to become loose and fall out. Grinding teeth is another cause of loose adult teeth that people may not even be aware since most grind their teeth during sleep.
Is it ok to pull out a loose tooth?
We do not recommend for people with a loose permanent tooth to pull it out themselves. Even though the tooth is loose, it does not necessarily mean that pulling it out is necessary. Depending on the particular situation we may be able to save the tooth, which is the ideal solution. If we determine the tooth does indeed need removal, then we will recommend the necessary tooth extraction procedure. While the majority of the time a tooth can be extracted without any issues, it is possible for something to go wrong, which can make things worse.
