When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly front office staff, Paulette and Roya. They will review your forms and discuss the reasons for your visit; any fears or concerns that you may have especially if you have an emergency at hand and need to be taken care of quickly.
At your first appointment, this will typically include a comprehensive review of your present dental needs and health history. Usually your first visit will include a thorough cleaning with the dental hygienist. We will then schedule an additional treatment plan at a future date. By taking a careful approach this allows us to properly diagnose and plan any important procedures.
Dental History, Cleaning, X rays and Examination
During your appointment, you’ll be taken to an examination room where you will meet your hygienist. The hygienist will review your dental needs and concerns, and ask you about your health history. We will evaluate and chart your existing restorations and gum/bone support and review any x-rays as well as conduct a head and neck exam and perform an oral cancer screening.
If gum disease is an issue, the hygienist will refer you to a periodontist. We will also take a new set of x-rays if needed.
Afterwards you will meet either Dr. Lalehzari or Dr. Neman, who will perform an examination, including:
- A tooth-by-tooth check for decay
- An oral cancer screening
- An assessment of periodontal (gum) health
- A bite evaluation
At this point, we will discuss your current oral health status. The dentist will ask you your short-term and long-term dental goals and will give realistic advice as to what he thinks is achievable . He will explain any recommended treatments and answer any questions you may have.
If you happen to need treatment for non-emergent conditions, the dentist may perform this the same day.
